An Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing, has dissolved the Akwa Ibom State chapter of its executive.
The National President of the group’s youth wing, Mr. Okechukwu Isiguzoro, announced the dissolution at a town hall meeting in Uyo, on Monday.
Isiguzoro stated that the dissolution of the group’s youth wing became necessary in view of the parallel leaderships which existed in the state’s youth wing of the group.
He said that none of the two executives had been elected in accordance with the tenets of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Constitution.
He said, “Based on the powers vested in me as the duly elected National President of the Ohanaze Ndigbo Youth Wing, I officially dissolve the parallel leaderships of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing Akwa Ibom chapter.
“This is because a house divided against itself cannot stand and we don’t want such to continue as it is not in the interest of the Igbo resident in Akwa Ibom.
“The National leadership of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo youth wing will in a few days’ time appoint an interim leadership that will be composed of neutral parties that will work towards conducting a credible election.”
The president also warned the warring factions to henceforth stop parading themselves as leaders of the youth wing of the Akwa Ibom chapter, adding that those who violate the instruction would be made to face the wrath of the law.
On the 2015 general election, he explained that the Igbo would consider political parties that have policies which would favour them wherever they are doing their businesses.
Isiguzoro, who was elated with the cordial relationship that exists between the Igbo in Akwa Ibom and the Peoples Democratic Party-led administration, urged the Igbo to vote for the re-election of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, as governor, and other PDP candidates.
