Terry - Chelsea will not stop putting pressure on referees

The 34-year-old defender maintains that Jose Mourinho's men were simply reacting to PSG "charging" referee Bjorn Kuipers after Zlatan Ibrahimovic's late tackle on Oscar.

John Terry insists Chelsea’s players will not stop putting pressure on referees but admits that their conduct in Wednesday's Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain at Stamford Bridge “doesn’t look great”.

Following Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s challenge on Oscar, which led to the Swede’s dismissal in the 31st minute, nine Chelsea players could be seen surrounding Bjorn Kuipers, pleading with the referee to dismiss the PSG sriker.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher branded Chelsea’s behaviour as “disgraceful” following the club’s Champions League exit but Terry maintains he and his team-mates were only reacting to PSG's alleged attempts to influence the match official.

“Once they’re charging the ref, the only thing we can do is respond,” said the Chelsea captain. “You can’t, as a group of players, let them surround the ref, trying to get our players booked. “For me, if I have to run 20, 30 yards, it doesn’t look great, but when you’re standing back and seeing five or six of their players surrounding the ref, for me, I think I support my team-mates.

And once I go, four or five go with me. It doesn’t look good at all, but that’s part of the game. We’ll match it if people want to mix it, that’s part of our game as well.” Despite Ibrahimovic's dismissal, Chelsea bowed out of the Champions League on the away goals, after drawing 2-2 on the night, and 3-3 on aggregate.
